DENVER

Denver, formerly known as Dry Pond, was first settled in the mid-1700s by Scots Irish and Germans from Pennsylvania. For most of its history, it was a farming community, with some residents also working in the textile mills. When Lake Norman was formed, it turned this small town on the lake’s west side into a bustling bedroom community for Charlotte.

Rock Springs Nature Preserve has a picnic shelter, a large children’s play area with multiple apparatuses, a partially paved .4 mile trail, an amphitheater, and an outdoor classroom. And East Lincoln Park has two softball fields, a multi-purpose field, horseshoe pits and a picnic shelter.
