Davidson, NC History

Davidson College (that was also the original name of the town) was founded by Presbyterian Church and opened its doors in March 1837.  Small farm lands and plantations mainly surrounded the Davidson area.  In 1891, the towns name officially changed to Davidson.  In 1929, the police department grew to a whopping 4 people!  The first TV program was viewed through the window of  Withers Electric on Main Street.

Davidson Today

Today Davidson is flourishing!  Kindred Restaurant was recently named one of the top newest restaurants by Bon Appetit magazine.  The Davidson College Men’s Basketball team has now been to the NCAA tournament for the 12th time!!  In the winter time, Davidson hosts Christmas in Davidson.  It is a wonderful event that has activities for the whole family to enjoy.  Davidson United Methodist Church always has a live Nativity Scene that include Roman soldiers, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, and much more.  There is also plenty of vendors that sell crafts and paintings.   How about taking a ride in a horse drawn carriage down Main Street?  And food trucks galore!  In the summer, enjoy Davidson’s Concert on the Green.  You can hear a varieity of music, from classical and jazz, to country and beach!  Something for everyone to enjoy.  Bring your chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and meet your family and friends to relax after a long week!  Davidson is a quaint, little town that is a true gem you have to experience for yourself.
